The weapon deposit from Vimose

A large found of sacrificed weapon where found in a bog called Vimose on Funen. Among other sacrifices made in bogs from several prehistoric periodes is humans, animals, jewelry, waggons and even food. The focus of interest, however, concentrates especially on the thousands of weapons and other military equipment from the Iron Age. The deposit in Vimose covers at least eight different occasions during the period from the birth of Christ to the 7th century AD. Most of the weaponry is from the 2nd-3rd century, and it was found during peat cutting and archaeological excavations in the years 1850-60. Unfortunately, many finds disappeared during previous peat-digging, and today we do not know how many objects, ancient societies sacrificed in Vimose.
