Gold – the metal of the sun

Gold is an impressive metal. Its golden colour is instinctively associated with the sun. We must assume that the religion of The Bronze Age was closely linked with nature. The sun determined the seasons, and the movement of the sun over the sky was part of the diurnal alternation of night and day. The sun symbols found in Bronze Age art are therefore not coincidental. Just as the sun disc of The Sun Chariot illustrates the sun, the stamped circles we see on the gold bowls can be interpreted as sun symbols. Gold and sun symbols played an important role in The Bronze Age rituals.
