The lurs today

In recent times the lur has often been used as a motif. Who doesn’t know Lurpak butter or the statue of  the lur-blowers in City Hall Square in Copenhagen? Lurs have been used in political contexts,  advertising and art.

The lur-blowers stand in Copenhagen's City Hall Square. They were made in bronze by Siegfried Wagner in 1911-1914 and according to legend shall blow the lurs when a virgin goes past.

In 1901 the butter manufacturer Lurpak registered its brand with the intertwined lurs. These can still be seen on its packages of butter.
