A dismembered man

The contents of some of the graves from Himlingøje show that the princely dynasty had particularly good relations with the Roman Empire. Among the many grave goods we find silver cups with images of Roman swords from the second century AD, a Roman dog and exclusive Roman glass and bronzes.

One of those buried was a young man who had been dismembered before finally being laid to rest. Perhaps he died abroad and it was necessary to dismember him in order to transport his body home? This shows the family’s strong bonds with the region.
