Amulets in the modern world

People in the Mesolithic period used amulets for protection or to acquire various attributes. This custom is well known amongst present-day hunter-gatherers around the world. People believe that they can protect themselves with amulets, which are objects with special properties. A modern example of this are ‘lucky stones’, which are various stones thought to have magical properties. Many people carry a small stone in their pocket or on a chain round the neck, which they believe can help them in different situations, just to be on the safe side. These stones function in a similar way to the amulets of the Mesolithic period.
