What happened in the magnate’s hall?

The hall at Tissø was really worthy of a prince. The building had high ceilings and perhaps even two floors. The roof was borne by a few very firmly rooted posts. In the middle of the hall there was a large open room with space for large assemblies of people. The archaeological excavation found many animal bones from the meals that were eaten at the magnate’s feasts. Singing and the sounds of drinking were probably also a part of the feasting in the hall. Evidence includes glass shards from Frankish drinking cups and a small, beautifully carved tuning-peg from a stringed instrument. The hall was probably also the place where certain religious ceremonies and other official events took place.
