Jørgen Hollesen researches in how environmental changes affect the decomposition of organic soils and the preservation of organic archaeological layers and artefacts. His work is based on field measurements, laboratory experiments and modelling. In 2020, Jørgen Hollesen received the European Heritage Prize for the project REMAINS of Greenland, which examines how climate change affects archaeological sites and materials in Greenland. He is the author of many scientific articles and works actively in ICOMOS to put climate change and cultural heritage on the agenda.
