Mads Dengsø Jessen works with examination of kingdoms of the Iron and Viking age, particularly fortifications and settlements and how state-like institutions such as kingship, urbanity, taxation, the church land-ownership and military develop. Of late Mads Dengsø Jessen has focused on conflict archaeology and the development of methods (LiDar/metal detektekting) that can shed light on landscapes of conflict.
