The first kings of the Danes?

Over the course of time many theories have been proposed for the Himlingøje burial site. One of these is that the rich graves in Stevns are those of the first kings of the Danes, who had immigrated here from Sweden. At all events, the rich grave furnishings from Europe suggest that these were princes of great importance and influence extending far beyond the area at Tryggevælde Å. If it is really the case that the princely graves here are those of the Danish kings, then it is possible that they are the ancestors of the Danish king Hugleik (English Hygelac). According to written sources he suffered a defeat in the year 515 during a naval expedition to the kingdom of the Franks. Hugleik is the first Danish king mentioned in the European sources.
