By virtue of its status as a government research institution The National Museum of Denmark allows for completing researcher training and obtain a PhD degree in collaboration with the universities according to the provisions contained in Order No. 18 of 25 august 2013 on the PhD degree from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education.
At the various universities are also a number of additional measures drawn out by individual faculties regarding their own fields. The PhD students are enrolled at research schools under the universities where they have their principal supervisor as well as one or more supervisors at the National Museum in the related fields of research.
