PhD at The National Museum of Denmark

By virtue of its status as a government research institution The National Museum of Denmark allows for completing researcher training and obtain a PhD degree in collaboration with the universities according to the provisions contained in Order No. 18 of 25 august 2013 on the PhD degree from the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Higher Education.

At the various universities are also a number of additional measures drawn out by individual faculties regarding their own fields. See: University of Copenhagen, Aarhus University, University of Southern Denmark, Roskilde University, Technical University of Denmark, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation (KADK), Aalborg University.

The PhD students are enrolled at research schools under the universities where they have their principal supervisor as well as one or more supervisors at the National Museum in the related fields of research.

Calls for expression of interest

The National Museum calls for expressions of interest with regard to applications for PhD fellowships through the Independent Research Fund Denmark's Non-university research education (PhD) expected to have a call deadline in the beginning of September 2024. Deadline for submission of expression of interest is Wednesday 15 May 2024.

Normal requirements
The National Museum can provide a hosting letter to a total of three applications. The three projects will be chosen through an internal process based on the incoming expressions of interest. If you want to send in an expression of interest, you must have established contact to one of the Museum's researcher, and you need to attach a letter of confirmation from the researcher, which contains a description of how the project fits in the research environment of the department and with the overall strategy of the museum.
