Kick-off: Moving Museums Through Play!
03.03.2025
We have officially launched Moving Museums Through Play—a three-year research and dissemination program where we explore the potential of play across the National Museum’s visitor sites.
Program purpose
The purpose of the program is to establish a strong research and practice community where we collaboratively explore how play can create even stronger audience experiences for children, youth, and adults alike.
On Monday, March 3, more than 50 engaged colleagues gathered at Kronborg Castle for an inspiring kick-off event. The day featured presentations, idea exchange, and an introduction to the program’s experimental projects and research approach.
Moving Museums Through Play spans eight of our unique museums:
Frilandsmuseet, Krigsmuseet, Kronborg Castle, The Ships in Holbæk, Kongernes Jelling, Trelleborg, Frøslevlejren, and the National Museum Copenhagen.
These eight museums represent very different types of institutions, encouraging us to explore various dimensions, approaches, and potentials of play.
In the coming months, we’ll host workshops and experiments where new ideas will be tested in practice. Throughout 2025 and 2026, the experiments will take shape across the country, and we look forward to sharing our insights and learnings along the way.
Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed with knowledge, ideas, and curiosity. We’re excited to continue this journey together!
