The army from Hjortspring Bog
The weapon offering from the bog Hjortspring Mose is the oldest find testifying to seaborne warriors and organized military forces in Denmark. Around 350 BC a hostile army of 80-100 warriors attacked the island of Als. The warriors came sailing in four or five boats. The foreigners attacked but lost. The victors sacrificed the enemy’s weapons, shields, tools and one of their boats in the bog as thanks for their victory. We do not know where the foreign warriors came from.
