Women 1660-2000

Women have occupied a variety of roles and lived under a wide range of conditions over the last c. 350 years of Danish history. Such roles have included noblewomen, farmers’ wives and smallholders’ wives at the time of the absolute monarchy, middle class ladies in the period of the nation state and the female wage earners of the welfare state.

Selected objects in the museum’s collections provide the basis for women’s stories. The objects are displayed at the National Museum in the exhibition Stories of Denmark 1660-2000.
