Two new playful installations
20.05.2026
We have opened two new playful installations at the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen.
Last week, we took another step towards bringing more play into our exhibitions. Two new experiments have opened at the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen as part of our programme Moving Museums Through Play (MMTP). The two new installations are located on the second floor in “Stories of Denmark 1660–2000” and have been developed in collaboration with the target group of young adults.
In “At the Doctors”, we invite visitors to take part in a role-playing scenario involving a doctor and a patient set in the early 1900s. Here, guests can experience approaches to and treatment of tuberculosis, syphilis, and unwanted pregnancy in their historical context.
In “Our Danish History”, visitors curate key events from the past 100 years of Danish history themselves. They select events such as the Kanslergade Agreement and COVID-19, as well as everyday objects like Pokémon cards or an air fryer.
INSTALLATION PRINCIPLES:
- The experience is a playful and immersive environment.
- The experience should be sensory, interactive, and include strong visual appeal.
- The experience evokes emotions and fosters identification among the target group, allowing them both to relate to past lives and to be challenged by the content.
- The experience can function both individually and collectively, and in many different constellations.
- The experience represents a break from the surrounding exhibition while still relating to its themes and objects.
