The hidden struggle
Heroes of the Danish resistance
Amazing inventions, wild gunfights, sabotage, shelter for wanted resistance fighters on the run and unprecedented courage.
We often hear the phrase ‘you couldn’t make it up,’ and these words are particularly apt when it comes to the incredible feats of the Danish resistance during the occupation.
They performed actions that were often life-threatening and ended in executions or the hell that was the concentration camps.
Yet time and time again, ordinary Danes took that risk in the fight against the occupying forces.
On this tour, we’ll listen to their stories and dive deep into their resistance struggle.
We take a closer look at some of the men and women who risked their lives to join the resistance.
Such as the sailor who transported supplies for the Allies under constant threat from German U-boats. And the housewife who hid wanted resistance fighters in her home. Then there were the resistance fighters who carried out spectacular acts of sabotage and killed informers in cold blood in the streets.
What they all have in common is that they joined the resistance knowing that it could end up costing them their lives.
Unfortunately, this is exactly what happened to many who were either executed by the Germans or lost their lives in the concentration camps.
This tour takes a look at the incredible and heroic deeds performed by the resistance fighters during the five dark years when Denmark was occupied.
