Experience life in Denmark during World War II. We follow the Danish people’s fate during the occupationI from 1940 – 1945. Is there anything Denmark can do against the enormous war machine of Nazi Germany?

On April 9th, Germany invades and occupies Denmark and the Danish people wake up to a new reality. What can you do? While the air raids circulate above the capital, the Prime Minister and the King has to answer to the Germans’ ultimatum: surrender or we bomb you to pieces. How do the leaders of the country best protect the country and its people?

It is not only the Prime Minister and the King who are faced with difficult choices during the five years Denmark is occupied. Everyone has to make a choice. Do you want to continue life as before? Or do you want to resist?

Would you sacrifice your life to help strangers from being send to concentration camps? The price for having joined the resistance fight can be high. Would you be willing to save other peoples’ lives at the price of your own?

Our talented and knowledgeable guides will guide you through the occupation, and some of the many choices the Danish people had to make during the war. We also take a closer look at the cooperation politics, the sabotage work, resistance fighters and those who voluntarily fought on the German side at the Eastern Front. We also look into how everyday life changed for those who tried to live as before.

World War II and the occupation of Denmark is, still, debated to this day. Were the right choices made? The choices have left some deep scars and they still affect our everyday lives and our self-perception to this day.
