Treasure Trove

What is treasure trove?

Treasure Trove

The Danish treasure trove is the unearthed archaeological finds in the form of precious metals, including coins, or objects that have a cultural-historical value. If you are in possession of - or otherwise discover - such objects, they must be submitted as they belong to the state. See how it is possible to submit here.

The National Museum administers the law regarding treasure trove, a law that can be traced back to the medieval period. It ensures that important archaeological finds are preserved for future generations.

The submitted and registered treasure trove is included in The National Museums exhibitions and are regularly exchanged with new items that are unearthed in the Danish soil.
