During the period of absolute monarchy in Denmark, the king decided over the lives and deaths of his subjects. With the constitution of 1849, freedom of expression, religious freedom and other rights were granted. However, it took many years before democracy in the modern sense was established.
Selected objects in the museum’s collections provide the basis for stories relating to power. The objects are displayed at the National Museum in the exhibition Stories of Denmark 1660-2000.
