Scattered over the landscape of Denmark are protected ancient monuments. Ruins of historic buildings and other constructions, that today constitute a unique cultural-historical source.
Different types of ruins
The ruins are the remains of castles and palaces from the Middle Ages, smaller manor houses, churches and monasteries - which were closed down during the Reformation. Amongst the most well visited of these are Hammershus, Trøjborg, Kalø, Kalundborg, Vordingborg, Gurre and Asserbo.
